About Kalkan
Kalkan is a traditional Turkish
harbour town which, although having seen growth in recent years, still
maintains its distinct personality and charm. Kalkan sits in between the
beautiful bay and the Taurus mountains with tranquil villages and
trout farms which can provide some relief from the heat in the
height of the summer.
Kalkan is brimming with cafes, shops and rooftop restaurants.
All situated on narrow streets leading down to the marina.
There are plenty of opportunities to browse local arts and crafts,
pottery, textiles, jewellery, clothing and leather goods. For the men, if they
need a break from shopping, can take their chances with a highly
skilled barber and his cut throat razor!
Of course
Spa's abound, specializing in traditional Turkish baths, massage and
facial treatments. These are all available to you through the many
fabulous boutique hotels and independent salons.
There are a
vast range of high quality, very reasonably priced restaurants with
unbeatable views of the bay. Some of my favourites...
Kaya for the friendliest service and amazing magic
tricks!
Coast with its spectacular food and views to
match. Gironda for a very special treat. Aubergine,
for glorious food and waterside dining. The Ottaman House
for excellent traditional Turkish cuisine served in a
traditional setting, Daphnes is a delight, Doy Doy, Jasmine, Marina... all very good.
Merkez for great quality casual dining at great prices. |

Beaches and
Beachclubs
There are numerous beach clubs in Kalkan with bathing
platforms cut into the rock all of which
offer various watersports. Scuba, sailing, water skiing, canoeing etc. All beach clubs have excellent facilities for lunch and refreshments. Free taxi service available or free water taxi from the
harbour, Kalamar, Mahal, Patara, Palm and Ibo's are very popular. Also Kalkan's white pebble beach along the harbour
road where sun loungers and umbrellas are available for hire and numerous cafes and restaurants are very close by.

Places to visit nearby Kas which is a larger harbour town about 20 mins scenic drive along a coastal road, or venture inland to the villages of
Yesilkoy, Islamlar with their fresh trout farms and mountain views. The journey to Bezirgan passes by Lycian rock tombs (30
mins). Fethiye and its huge market (about 1 hour). Beautiful breezy Patara beach (25
mins) has many impressive ancient ruins. The sunken city of Kekova can be reached by boat and ferry's from Kas to the nearby Greek Island of Mies also known as Castelloriz (1 hr)
